Friendly player ratings: City v Valencia
Hart (Given 46) – Looked confident despite having little to do as those in front of him kept Valencia at bay. 6
Richards – Began the game at right-back, looking to get forward at every opportunity. Looking strong and sharp this was an impressive display which bodes well for the upcoming season. 7
Boateng (Kolo Toure 46) – Total quality in the run past three players and inch perfect cross for the first goal. Defended well when required. 8
Kompany (Ibrahim 78) – The sharp movement by Valencia’s forwards allowed them to slip between our defenders a little to easily. Should be happier against Spurs. 6
Kolarov (Cunningham 73) – Rather to eager to shoot and didn’t answer the questions about his defending. Looks to get forward at every opportunity, but will need to be sharper defensively against Aaron Lennon. 6
De Jong (Vieira 46) – Razor sharp in a welcome return. Fitness levels appears excellent considering this was his first pre-season game. 7
Barry (Weiss 68) – Benefitted from having extra bodies around him in midfield. Got forward to good effect with a well taken goal. 6
Yaya Toure (Lescott 62) – Made to be a Premier League midfielder. Strong physique combined with a neat touch and ability to find a pass when under pressure. Looks capable of bagging a few goals as well with shots from the edge of the penalty area. 7
Silva (Wright-Phillips 36) – Superb control, quick feet and an eye for a pass make Silva look like the rich man’s Ireland. 7
Tevez (Johnson 36) – Looked hungry and delighted to be back. A couple of wayward touches could be put down to a lack of match practice. Interesting to see him captain the side. 7
Adebayor (Jo 73) – Once again the work rate was there without ever looking like scoring. Hopefully the goals will come once the season starts. 6
Subs:
Wright-Phillips 36 – Full of pace and danger, Shaun made a strong case for a place against Spurs. 8
Johnson 36 – As the opposition tired, so Adam demonstrated his skills. A danger whenever he had the ball in the closing stages. 7
Given 46 – Will have been grateful for a greater opportunity to demonstrate his skills than Hart had. This would be tempered by playing the second half rather than the first – an indication that Mancini may be favouring Joe for the Spurs game. 7
Kolo Toure 46 – An improvement on the Dortmund game, but will it be enough to see him start against Spurs? The captain may not be an automatic choice. 6
Vieira 46 – Looking fitter without being dominant. Patrick’s mantle may have passed to Yaya but he still did an effective job. 6
Lescott 62 – Another competent performance from Joleon as he tries to break back into the team. 6
Weiss 68 – Quick and eager without offering much in the way of end product. 6
Jo 73 – Hit the post and scored his fourth goal of pre-season. The Brazilian is also looking stronger – an important improvement as he was to often bullied off the ball. Could he really make the final 25? 7
Cunningham 73 – Another opportunity for Greg and he slotted in nicely. Defended and distributed well. 7
Ibrahim 78 – Good to see Abdi get a run out, though there wasn’t enough time to make a big impression. 6
Man of the match: Shaun Wright-Phillips.
