Player ratings: Manchester United v Manchester City
Hart – Superbly protected by those in front of him. Dealt well with a couple of long range efforts in the second half. 8
Richards – Showed his defensive mettle in a physical tussle with Young during the opening period. Went on to demonstrate the attacking side of his game, the high point being a powerful cross for Aguero’s goal. 9
Kompany – Once again put in an excellent performance against Rooney. The United striker was being forced ever deeper even before Evans’ sending-off. 8
Lescott – As solid as his captain, dealing expertly with any balls into our penalty area. Alert enough to claim an assist for the fourth by pulling the ball back for Dzeko. 8
Clichy – Nani was a potential danger that didn’t materialise thanks to another impressive display by the Frenchman. Threatened to go all the way with one attacking run and maybe he should have! 9
Barry – Reliable throughout, maintaining focus and shielding the back four well. 8
Milner (Kolarov 88) – Earnt his start through his recent good form, and took his game to another level here. Industry mixed with skillful touches ensured James was involved in the key opening goals. 9
Aguero (Nasri 74) – Still looks to be feeling his way back after injury yet still got on the scoresheet thanks to another well timed dart into the penalty area. 7
Y Toure – Initially looked set to miss out, then went on to play his part from the deeper role. Maintained his discipline alongside Barry to keep United at bay in the early stages. 8
Silva – Let’s not forget David was involved in the opening goal. The space which opened up following the dismissal of Evans was an open invitation for the Spaniard to destroy United. He took up the offer. 10
Balotelli (Dzeko 69) – A quiet opening was followed by the most measured of finishes from his favoured spot on the edge of the area. Used his acceleration to get ahead of Evans for the sending off, then the second goal was job done for Mario. 9
Subs:
Dzeko – Could have had four but setttled for two in the amazing finale. Great to see him back on the scoresheet and hopefully it will lead to a return of his August form. 8
Nasri – Brought on to help close the game out with neat passing and possession play. 7
Kolarov – Barely had a touch but got to celebrate three goals! 7
Man of the match: Mario was central to the key moments, but overall it has to be David Silva.
