Europa League player ratings: Manchester City v Dynamo Kiev

Hart – A relatively quiet evening as Kiev showed little interest in scoring an away goal. 6

Richards – Sought to push forward whenever possible but didn’t always receive the ball. Kiev defenders became wise to his runs and he needs to vary them a little. 6

Kompany – Solid in defence and looked dangerous when moving forward. Could have been more adventurous as the game wore on. 7

Lescott – Another strong game at the back – the partnership with Kompany is coming on well. There’s a steady improvement in Joleon’s distribution as Mancini irons out the long ball tendency. 7

Kolarov (Milner 86 mins) – A big improvement on the Reading game. Scored and put over a series of crosses. Still needs to work on consistency of delivery. 7

De Jong – Dominated his area of the pitch as usual. Less influential than against Reading as Kiev didn’t push to get beyond him. 7

Y Toure – Doesn’t win as many aerial balls as he should. Did better on the ground and put in a steady performance. The main concern is how much is left in the tank for the Chelsea game. 7

Barry (A Johnson 71 mins) – Having been rested against Reading, Gareth appeared off the pace at the start. Improved as the game wore on, and could be seen sprinting after we went down to ten men. 6

Silva (Dzeko 76 mins) – Unable to unlock the Kiev defence. Continued to probe throughout and showed great movement. It’s to be hoped the injury which forced him off doesn’t keep him out of the Chelsea game. 7

Balotelli – Oh Mario. Bib issues before the game. Missed an early chance, deflected a Silva shot wide, then came the nadir of his City career thus far. He can’t tackle and most of the cards this season have come as a result, but he really does need to avoid committing the de Jong World Cup final special. 3

Tevez – Showed a tremendous desire and appetite to get us through to the next round. Even if things aren’t going his way in front of goal this was still an admirable effort. 7

Subs:

A Johnson – Stuck to his wing and saw little of the ball as a result. Probably a long way from full fitness. 6

Dzeko – Great turn and shot at the death which nearly took us to extra time. Edin could have been brought on earlier to provide a focal point to attacks which floundered against a crowded Kiev defence. 6

Milner – Good to see him back, just a shame he wasn’t available for the first leg.

Man of the match: Carlos Tevez.
