City transfer talk: 9 July
A little less news this morning, and it sounds more speculative than ever. Those journalists are really missing the World Cup, and it’s not even over yet.
The Sun follow yesterday’s Wright-Phillips story, with news that we’re looking at Richard Wright as an understudy goalkeeper. Either Shay Given or Joe Hart will be off if they’re not number one. This contradicts everything Mancini has said so has little credence.
Even less truth is likely to be attached to the story that City are interested in signing Drogba, and Chelsea would be willing to sell if they sign Torres. It stems from this RMC story. Mark Ogden from the Telegraph tweets:
Don’t get excited about #mcfc signing Drogba. 18 months ago maybe, but not on radar now.
If Sheikh Mansour misses out on Torres, then Ibrahimovic or Dzeko are more likely to be wearing a City shirt next season. Incidentally, the Independent claim Liverpool are determined to keep Fernando. We’ll see.
Elsewhere, one report claims Stephen Ireland may be offered in part exchange for James Milner, while another claims it will be a straight cash deal. Remember the old rule – swap deals rarely happen outside of newspapers.
The only positive piece of news is that City youngster, Andrew Tutte, has signed a long term contract.

Great summary. Beats the ib\ncreasingly boring BBC one any day.
