Europa League player ratings: Dynamo Kiev v Manchester City
Hart – Beaten for the first goal by the poacher’s instinct of Shevchenko. No chance with the second and produced a terrific block in the closing minutes. 7
Richards – Drifted offside a couple of times in the first half, but continued to push on and posed a danger throughout. 6
Lescott – Timed his challenges well as the Kiev strikers posed repeated problems. Came as close as anyone to scoring with a well struck shot in the second half. 7
Kompany – Looked sharper than he did on Saturday, and needed to be. Nearly gave away a penalty with a couple of challenges but still exuded authority. 7
Zabaleta – Plenty of industry from the Argentine, who was unlucky to have so many fouls given against him. His attitude was exemplary on a difficult night. 7
Barry – Brought the ball out of defence well and put in a much better performance than at the weekend. Still didn’t offer enough in the attacking third. 6
Y Toure – Showed some good touches but we needed more. There was always a danger of a below par performance from Yaya and so it proved. 6
Kolarov (Wright-Phillips, 82) – For someone with such a good left foot, the delivery from set pieces ought to be more consistent. We have plenty of targets to aim at and every corner should threaten a goal. 6
Silva – Struggled to produce his best game on the frozen surface. Kept trying even though his night was summed up by the attempted shot that bounced off his standing leg. 6
Dzeko – Disappointing in the first half, then appeared to come to life with the introduction of Tevez. From then on he looked a danger and nearly played in both Tevez and Silva. 6
Balotelli (Tevez, 57) – Loved it out there. 5
Subs:
Tevez – His involvement galvanized the whole attack and for a spell we looked like getting an equaliser. 7
Wright-Phillips – Not able to get sufficiently involved to offer a threat. 6
Man of the match: Kompany and Lescott did ok, but we only began to look dangerous following the introduction of Carlos Tevez.
