Player ratings: Manchester City v Wigan Athletic

Hart – Caught in no-mans land for Wigan’s one chance of the first-half, and the hardest save of the second-half was straight at him. A comfortable afternoon. 6

Richards – Martinez tried to catch City out by stationing Rodallega on the wing but Micah was wise to it, and up for the physical challenge. Unlucky not to score when played in by Tevez.

Kompany – Had the measure of Di Santo aside from the one moment in the first half when the Argentine broke clear. 7

Lescott – Appeared conscious of Kolo on the bench as he went on one outstanding surge forward, involved a full three times in the move. Later unfortunate to deflect a Kompany header over and then not properly connect with a Yaya cross when faced with an open goal. 7

Clichy – Excellent going forward where his pace and control are a real asset. Had a testing time defensively against Moses with mixed results. Zabaleta would have got closer to his opponent. 7

Y Toure (Razak 80 mins) – Once again stationed in the deeper role and looked a class above the Wigan midfield. Not as impressive defensively as against Tottenham. 7

Milner – Relished the central starting role, though his passing wasn’t always up to the high standards of those further forward. In the wars with a blow to the head to go with other knocks. 7

Silva – Not everything came off for the Spaniard, but when it did there was usually a goal at the end of it. Once again showed excellent movement as Wigan were unable to track him. 8

Tevez (Nasri 60 mins) – Having lost the captaincy, penalty taking duties could be next to go. It was still great to see him back and Carlos showed some nice turns and touches to go with a great run that led to the opening goal. Will only get better with more matches. 7

Aguero (Balotelli 70 mins) – A superbly taken hat-trick when all about him were fluffing their shots. Timed his runs through the Wigan back line perfectly. 9

Johnson – Skied an early chance and things didn’t always come off for Adam. Still good to see him complete 90 minutes. 7

Subs:

Nasri – Barely arrived on the pitch before he chalked up an assist for the overdue second goal. No problems with the broken finger and should start against Napoli. 7

Balotelli – Great to see him back on the pitch. Looked eager to get on the scoresheet but with the urgency gone from the game, Mario didn’t get the required through balls to run on to. 6

Razak – Good to see the youngster make an appearance. Showed good positional discipline and looked comfortable on the ball. 6

Man of the match: Sergio Aguero.

Comments

  1. Not sure you were at the same match……Johnson was poor and couldn’t get into the game..
Silva produced one of the most complete midfield performances ever seen at a city game……yes Aguero scored three well taken goals but the man who supplied them was surely man of the match!

  2. Silva an 8…your having a laugh, almost an 10, the bloke was unplayable
