Carling Cup player ratings: Wolverhampton Wanderers v Manchester City

Pantilimon – Did better with crosses than against Birmingham in the last round. Here the concern was how shots tended to come back off him into open play. 6

Zabaleta – Against Hunt we needed someone who was going to remain committed and focussed throughout. Pablo was the man. 7

K Toure – Sold himself terribly in the build-up to the opening Wolves goal. Needs more games to recover his top form. 6

Savic – Grew in stature after committing some reckless challenges in the opening half-hour. Might have been a little too keen to impress. 6

Kolarov – Terriffic attacking display from the Serbian. Seems to be finding greater accuracy with his crosses. 8

de Jong – A steady game in the middle of the park. Good to see him get 90 minutes under his belt. 7

Razak (Milner 85) – Another wholehearted display from the youngster, which left him with cramp once again. Needs to improve the consistency of his passing after giving possession away too cheaply at times. 7

Nasri (Suarez 65) – Excellently taken goal and had a hand in a couple of the others. Good to see his committment after not starting in the derby. 8

A Johnson – A burst of brilliance saw him score then set up two more goals. The pass for the second was as good as anything Silva could offer. 8

Scapuzzi (Rekik 74) – Showed good technique and understanding. Looked better than might have been expeted. 7

Dzeko – Another senior player who showed a great appetite for the game. A couple more goals will ensure his confidence remains high. 8

Subs:

Suarez – Showed some delightful touches and movement. Being compared to Silva, but he looks more like Fabregas in the way he plays centrally and is more of a passer than a dribbler. 7

Rekik – Once again showed great composure. At just 16 Karim has great potential. 7

Milner – Brought on to close the game out after Razak suffered from cramp.

Man of the match: Edin Dzeko.
