Yaya Toure set for medical after World Cup
Todays Sport.es reports that Yaya Toure will complete his signing for City following a medical due to take place after the Ivory Coast’s World Cup exit. Sven’s side are likely to bow out on Friday unless Portugal lose to Brazil and the Ivorians score a hatful of goals against North Korea.
Sport.es is keen to placate Barca supporters by describing Toure as wanting to leave and his departure will be the most profitable sale ever by Barca. Along with the initial fee, there will be bonus payments if City qualify for the Champions League, etc.
Hopefully we’ll see his signing confirmed by City next week.
Over in El Mundo there was talk of Robinho or Juan Mata being Guardiola’s preferred replacements for Thierry Henry on the left side of the Barcelona attack. Mata looks the more likely option at the moment, though who knows with Robinho.
The Brazilian’s people are reportedly due to speak to City this week. The Mirror claims we’re set to sell him. That’s surely the most likely scenario, but then again maybe it’s not so clear cut.
If Robinho is prepared to come back to Manchester and City fail to land another winger, then a shock return could be possible. Roberto Mancini always claims to rate Robinho and talk of him being cast out by the manager was always exaggerated. It was early in Mancini’s reign when a decision was required on the loan to Santos and the manager probably believed it would make for an easier life to let the player go.
Over in Italy, Tuttosport carries a couple of questions put to Mancini. When asked if he’s interested in Krasic or Dzeko, the City manager replies yes to one of them but refuses to specify which.
- The money here would be on Dzeko. What do you think?
