Europa League player ratings: Manchester City v Juventus

Hart – Not the best of nights for Joe, being caught out as the ball bounced under his outstretched hand for the goal. Del Piero’s free kick against the bar should also have been tipped over. 6

Zabaleta (Boyata 46) – Not many wingers get the better of Pablo, but Krasic was a slippery opponent. The Argentine was typically fearless in one crunching 50-50 with Chiellini which he did well to survive intact. 6

Kompany – Another imperious performance against dangerous opposition. Showed some nice footwork as well in a couple of surging runs forward. 8

K Toure – Kolo’s reading of the game and great covering skills make him better suited to the international game and this could be seen as he continued his excellent partnership with Vincent. 7

Boateng (Milner 83mins) – The way he stood off Iaquinta for the goal was reminiscent of Micah at his worst. Hopefully we can put this down to rustiness. Looks extremely confident with the ball at his feet and gives a new dimension to our play with his long range passing. 7

A Johnson – A brilliantly timed run and two touch finish for our goal were the highlight. Elsewhere playing an Italian defence was an education. Juve didn’t think twice about doubling up defenders, and then adding a third to crowd out Adam. Added to this, their tackling was sharper than that found in the Premier League and it proved a testing night. 7

Y Toure – For the goal Yaya played just the kind of defence splitting pass that was required to pierce the Juve ranks. In the second half there were a couple of terrific runs that threatened to create further openings. Still doesn’t dominate games as much as he could. 7

Vieira – Did his best to keep things ticking over and attempted to unlock the Juve defence with some sharp passes that didn’t quite come off. Appeared to tire in the second half when he could have done with Sissoko’s energy. 6

Barry – After the heights of his performance against Chelsea this was a comedown. A couple of errant early passes signalled the focus wasn’t quite there and Gareth was never able to make a real impression on the game. 6

Adebayor (Silva 73mins) – Started impressively but it became a frustrating evening as Ade wasn’t able to make the breakthrough as a lone striker against Chiellini and co. His departure showed how well he’d been doing as we then struggled to make any impression whatsoever. 6

Tevez – Worked hard for the team with some good link-up play on the left flank, and offered a threat. Often tempted to go it alone and Juve crowded him out. Seemed to take a while to move into a central position once Ade had gone off and we lost momentum. 7

Subs:

Boyata – Once again looked solid defensively – would Iaquinta have got his shot away if Dedryck had been marking him? Less impressive going forward as it was going to take something special to get through the Italian defence in the second half. 6

Silva – This was just the kind of game where his sublime skills were required to unlock a tight defence. It nearly worked and he ought to have been on the pitch for longer. 7

Milner – Came on for the final few minutes and didn’t see enough of the ball to make a significant impact. 6
