Player ratings: City v Inter Milan

Hart – Looked like he was trying to hard to impress. Needs to relax and play his natural game, like he did at Birmingham. 5

Zabaleta – Commited as ever, particularly when moved into midfield. Still lacks the eye for a pass required to make a top quality midfielder. 6

Kompany – All fired up, particularly when Pandev made a meal of one tackle. It’s to be hoped his injury isn’t serious. 6

Kolo Toure – Looked in decent shape as he eases back for the new season. 6

Bridge – Good to see him looking back to full fitness. When up to speed he’s still a decent player. 6

Vieira – The sending off was unjust and made this game against his old club a disaster. 4

Yaya Toure – Showed some good touches and got forward at times. Cambiasso was still the dominate force, but hopes for Yaya remain high. 6

Barry – Once again failed to deliver against quality opposition. 5

Adam Johnson – Our most dangerous player in the first half. Once again he ran out of steam in the second period. Adam looks like he would be better off spending pre-season working on his stamina as he already has the skills. 6

Jo – Not able to influence the game before being sacrificed in a tactical switch following Vieira’s sending off. 4

Adebayor – Playing most of the match up front on his own against one of the best defences in the world is no easy task. Ade didn’t lack for effort, but the ball should stick with him more. 5

Richards – Went on one storming run in the second half and looked determined throughout. There were still the usual questions about whether he could have been tighter on his opponent for the opening goal. 6

Lescott – Could have got tighter to Obinna for the second goal in a reasonable but not dominant performance. 5

Given – No fitness concerns here. Looked at ease on the pitch during a trying match. Fine tip over just prior to the third goal. 6

Cunningham – Didn’t make any major mistakes. The tour has given the youngster an excellent opportunity to demonstrate his skills to the first team management. 5

Wright-Phillips – Admirable in taking the game to Inter whenever he got the chance. Our most dangerous player in the second period even if there was some wayward shooting. 6

Boyata – Tracked Eto’o for one excellent block as the Cameroon striker looked set to score. Once again didn’t look out of place. 6

Ireland – A late entrance following Kompany’s injury still gave time for Stevie time to show his usefulness. It was good to see someone come on and show some vision from the middle of the park. Nearly played in Ade a couple of times. 6

For all the signings during the summer I still think we need a creative central midfield player. Unless we sign one or give Ireland a chance to cement his place in the team I think there will be an over-dependence on Johnson and Silva (assuming they will be the first choice wingers) to supply the stickers. I know Mancini likes to have two defensive midfielders but there still needs to be a plan B

  2. In full agreement that a creative central midfielder is sorley needed and I’m really surprised City have not made an offer for Ozil.

I’m hoping that Mancicn will deploy Silva in the ACM role. While Silva does line up on the left wing for Spain, he played centrally for Valencia and the man certainly has an eye for a pass.
